Assets
Any equipment, place, building, room, apartment, person, machine to which one or more sensors (“Devices”) is attached.
An Asset Type must have been created and activated before you can create Assets. The creation of a type of asset, an asset, a group of assets can only be done after having activated at least one device comprising decoded data (measurements).
Topology of your Assets
The organization of your assets, therefore your equipment, buildings, premises, people, is important. Groups are represented as a folder icon. Assets are colored balls. 2 methods are available to organize your assets: “groups” and “sub-assets”.
- Groups will be used, typically, to classify assets by country, region, city, site, category of material, manager in charge. The groups are used in particular in asset tracking projects, or in the measurement of air quality.
- The notion of sub-asset differs from the notion of group, in that it is possible to aggregate data from sub-assets into the main asset. We will mainly use sub-assets in the case of energy metering projects, where an asset can be a building, each floor being a sub-asset of the building, and each apartment being a sub-asset of a floor. This will then make it possible to aggregate consumption by floor, and by building, using smart devices.
It is of course possible to combine groups and sub-assets. For example, in a property management, one can create groups for regions/districts/site. And then use the assets / sub-assets for the definition of a building, floors (eventually) and premises. It is possible to limit the list of Assets to which a user has access. See access rights management in My User Groups.
Asset Groups example
In this example, we have a group of “smart building” assets, in which we have a sub-group “IOT Factory Brussels”. In the “Smart Building” group, we have an asset (building 1) composed of a floor (sub-asset) and an apartment (sub-sub-asset).
Sub-Asset example
In this example of asset management, we have a “Fleet” group and an “Assets” subgroup. In these 2 groups, there are Assets.
Create an Asset
You should have defined at least one Asset Type, before the creation of new Asset. It is not possible to create Assets without an Asset Type.
For the definition of an Asset Type, go to: Asset Types
The steps for the creation of an asset are the followings:
- Press the Add Asset button (top/right of the screen)
- Select “Standard” mode
- Enter at least a name and the asset type.
- The other fields are optional:
- EXTID: your own reference for this asset
- Group: the Asset Group to which the asset belongs to
- Status: only active assets can be used on the platform.
- Tags: a way to classify assets based on various criteria
- Note: any description that would be needed.
- In the Data Source tab:
- Specify the devices that will be attached (according to the definition in the Asset Type)
- For Smart Devices and Static lists, it will depend on the configuration in the Asset Type
- You may add additional devices/smart devices, if necessary
- In the Properties tab, fill all required information.
Asset State
The Asset State feature gives you the possibility to define a status, based on the current values of its measurements, as well as to define a icon and a color.
To configure the Asset State:
- Edit the asset (press the edit button)
- select the default icon (visible on the right side of the asset name, in the title bar)
- In the “Icon selector and state settings”, you may change the default icon, but also add (press the “+” button) conditions that will change the icon and/or the color of the icon
- give a name to a state
- choose the type of condition: either based on discrete values (List of values) or based on the value of a measurement
Asset Analytics
This tab offers basic charts of all measurements attached to the asset.
Asset Journal
This tab shows alerts generated for this asset, as well as notes attached to it. Alerts are generated by rules and notes are written through the Edit notes form.

Asset Map
If you have a GPS tracker attached to this asset, it will show you its location on a MAP.
Alternatively, you can also specify a static location for the asset. This can be done in Edit mode.
Asset Plan
This tab shows the thematic plans (Indoor air quality, Occupancy, …) on which the zones and markers are arranged. These change status according to the evaluation of their data source (e.g. presence, CO2 level)..
For the definition of a Plan, go to: Plan
Asset Devices
View data (measurements) linked to all devices/smart devices/static lists attached to the asset. In edition mode, you can add/remove devices/smart devices/static lists related to the asset.
Asset Dashboards
This tab shows the dashboards for the selected asset. Dashboards created for an asset apply to all assets of that type. The dashboard inherits the context of the selected element and provides access to parent or child nodes.
