====== Asset Types ======

Asset Types allow you to define common characteristics for various assets. When creating an asset, you must select an **Asset Type**, which sets default configurations such as icons, custom fields, and data sources.

== Creating an Asset Type==

To create a new Asset Type, follow these steps:

  - **Access the Asset Type Creation Interface:**
    * Click the "Add" button located at the top-right corner.
  - **Configure Asset Type Details:**
    * **Name:** Enter a name for the Asset Type.
    * **Status:** Set the status to "Active" when it is ready for use.
    * **Parent:** Optionally, specify a parent Asset Type to enforce a hierarchy.
    * **Tags:** Add tags to group assets based on various criteria for use in dashboards, rules, and alerts.
  - **Save the Asset Type:**
    * Click the "Save" button to finalize the creation.
  - **Configure Data Sources:**
    * Navigate to the "Data Source" tab.
    * Specify the devices, smart devices, or static lists that will be attached.
    * **Alias:** Enter a label that will prompt you to choose a device when creating an asset.

**Device Data Source Type**, optionally, restrict attached devices to a specific device type.
**Smart Device Data Source Type**, optionally, specify a Smart Device template to automatically create a smart device when an asset is created.

**Examples:**
    * To add a GPS Tracker to all assets of this type, create a data source with an alias like "tracker."
    * To add an electricity meter, create two data sources: one for the meter (Alias: meter; Type: device) and one for the smart device (Alias: consumption; Type: smartdevice) to process electricity consumption.

=== Custom Fields===

Once the Asset Type and data sources are configured, you can define custom fields:

  - **Access Custom Fields:**
    * Return to the main tab.
  - **Define Custom Fields:**
    * For each field, enter a name, type, and default value.

**Custom Field Data Types:**
    * String
    * Number
    * Boolean
    * Date
    * Relationship
    * Entity Relation
    * Dropdown
    * Measure (value + unit)
    * Data Source (link to an attached device measurement)

For the "Data Source" type, you can:
    * Activate the "spentTimeable" option to use the field for state planning.
    * Define a transformation to apply to the data source.

** Icon and States**

Customize the icon and define states for your Asset Type:

  - **Select an Icon:**
    * Click on the icon to open a modal window.
    * Change the default icon and color.
  - **Define States:**
    * Add states by specifying a state value, icon, color, and condition.

=== Asset Type Templates===

Save an Asset Type as a template to reuse it in another account or to create new Asset Types:

    * **Save as Template:** Click the "Save As Template" button in the main Asset Type form.
    * **Create from Template:** Click the "Add" button and choose "Add from Template" to create a new Asset Type from an existing template.
