Keeping a journal allows you to log actions carried out on a device or an asset. This guide will help you record notes or tasks, which can then be viewed in the "Journal" panel of a device or asset, or in the "Journal" widget on a dashboard.

** Creating a Journal **

To create a journal, follow these steps:

  - **Access the Rules Module:**
    * Navigate to the "Rules" module.
  - **Add a User Notes Rule:**
    * Click on "Add a Rule" and select "User notes."
  - **Configure the Rule:**
    * Enter a name, category, and level for the rule.
    * Set the status to "active."
  - **Save the Rule:**
    * Click "Save" to finalize the creation of the journal rule.

**Adding a User Note**

To add a user note to a device or an asset, follow these steps:

  - **Open the Journal Panel:**
     *  In the asset module, open the "Journal" panel of the desired asset.
  - **Create a New Note:**
     *  Click on "New note."
  - **Enter Note Details:**
     *  In the modal window, select a note flow.
     *  Enter a title, date, and the note content.
     *  Adjust the category or level if needed.
     *  Mark the note as a task if applicable.
     *  Add relevant tags to the note.
   - **Save the Note:**
     *  Click "Save" to add the note to the journal.

** Viewing Journal Entries**

  * **Journal Panel:** Displays all notes related to the specific device or asset.
  * **Journal Widget:** Shows all notes based on the configured settings.

** Configuring the Journal Widget**

To customize the Journal widget and display notes, follow these steps:

  - **Define Content Sources:**
    *  Use the "Customize" tab to select the sources of the content feed.
    *  Ensure "Notes rules" is selected to display notes.
    *  Apply filters by category, level, rules, or acknowledged notes as needed.
  - **Set Data Source Filters:**
    *  Define filters in the "Rows" tab to limit notes to specific data sources.
  - **Specify Time Frame:**
    *  Set a time frame to limit the temporal scope of user notes.

** Display Modes**

The Journal widget offers two display modes:
    *  **Simple Mode:** A compact view of the notes.
    *  **Exploded Mode:** A detailed view with expanded note information.
